Oiling Out

Time to start putting out the
next year's batch of olive oil.

Here is a photo that shows
some of last year's oil, which
looks bright yellow, beside
some of the new oil, which
looks quite green.
WALNUT AND OLIVE OILS
In the foreground are a
couple of bottles of walnut
oil that I have been
bleaching out in the sun
for three months.

When I first put them out,
they were very nearly as
yellow [ greenish-yellow,
actually ] as the olive oil
behind them.

The funny hats are caps
made from old plastic
prescription bottles.

They keep rainwater
from wicking in to the
bottles.

Come next June, I'll bring
the walnut oil inside and
begin washing it.

I like painting with walnut
oil, and find that the
commercial offerings are
even more objectionable
than the linseed oils of
trade.
